Across 18 vegetables the cheapest online app sits close to local retail — our median is ₹46/kg for potato at the low end. Where online loses is the dearest app: the same vegetable is typically 28% more expensive on the priciest platform than the cheapest, so which app you open matters more than whether you shop online at all.

On this dataset BigBasket is cheapest most often — it has the lowest normalised ₹/kg for 7 of 18 vegetables. But no app wins everything: BigBasket leads on 7, Blinkit leads on 6, DMart Ready leads on 2, Swiggy Instamart leads on 2. That is exactly why comparing per order beats picking one app and staying loyal.

Quick-commerce produce is stored in dark stores that turn stock over in a day or two, so it is usually as fresh as a neighbourhood shop and fresher than a supermarket. The real risk is not staleness but substitution and weight: a '500 g' pack of leafy sabji can arrive at 420 g. Check the delivered weight on your first few orders and drop apps that consistently under-deliver.

In September the seasonal picks are lady finger (bhindi), green chilli (hari mirch), bottle gourd (lauki), bitter gourd (karela), ridge gourd (turai), pumpkin (kaddu).
